“I am a chef and I am a food and beverage educator. I believe in the alchemy that takes place when food, wine, and culture come together as a shared experience. I love to teach – to me it’s all about shared enjoyment and the excitement of discovery.”
Chef and educator Annette Tomei launched VinEducation – an organization dedicated to transforming food and beverage education into a deliciously enjoyable experience.
As a former chef and wine professional for top institutions in New York City and Napa Valley, Annette brings her signature teaching style to her clients, artfully pairing complex curriculums with interactive tastings, food and wine pairings and events.
Annette holds a Masters of Arts in Gastronomy (University of Adelaide), a Grand Diplôme in Culinary Arts (French Culinary Institute), and an International Spirits certification (WSET). She is the co-author of Chile Aphrodisia, and a contributor to Fork Me, Spoon Me: The Sensual Cookbook and Romancing The Stove: The Unabridged Guide to Aphrodisiac Foods. “Even before I understood the idea that food serves as a cultural symbol, I knew that different foods were important to different groups of people – Sharing a meal is akin to sharing personal history, an intimate gesture.”
A Little History of VinEducation:
It all began in 1995 as a private chef service catering to the ski resorts surrounding Salt Lake City that grew into a small restaurant (closed long ago) near the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains.
From 2000 to 2006, VinEducation served the Wine Country north of San Francisco. The main focus during that period was on serving the wine industry; particularly small and exclusive wineries interested in special meals prepared specifically to accentuate their wines. Other services included private chef and catering, recipe development and testing, wine tastings, food and wine pairing and menu consulting, speaking engagements, and private tasting tours of wine country.
In 2006 Annette returned to New York City and VinEducation was put on hold while she completed a Masters Degree in Gastronomy and focused on building a solid reputation as a thought-leader in the food and beverage industry in NYC and beyond. 2013 marks the start of a business based on the culmination of over 25 years experience, a well-developed palate and a sincere joy for sharing it all.
